‘There is no such thing as Pakistani Kashmir’, India scolds America’s NYT

India expressed strong objection to The New York Times calling Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) as Pakistani Kashmir. India has called it misleading and wrong and reiterated that this area is an integral part of India. India made it clear that there is no such thing as Pakistani Kashmir.

The New York Times published a report on the clashes and local elections in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, stating that violence broke out in Mirpur when police clashed with members of the Joint Awami Action Committee. This is a civil rights group that was protesting against police brutality.

It also said that at least two people had died due to gunshot wounds in the recent unrest and also mentioned the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan’s demand for an independent investigation into the violence. The Indian Embassy said, “Pakistan has illegally occupied parts of these union territories. It is now using violence against the people of the occupied areas.”

‘There is no such thing as Pakistani Kashmir’
The Indian Embassy rejected the words used by The New York Times, saying, “There is no Pakistani Kashmir, there is only ‘Pakistan occupied Kashmir.'” The Embassy reiterated that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have been, are and will always be an integral and inseparable part of India.

JAAC is protesting against Pakistan
In a report published quoting local officials and independent agencies, the New York Times said that at least 30 people have been killed so far in the violent clashes that began in June. The Joint Forum (JAAC) of many social and political organizations is continuously protesting against the 12 disputed seats of the so-called assembly of PoK. JAAC alleges that the ruling establishment uses these seats to make a person of its choice the Prime Minister.

India has said that the ongoing mass protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) are the result of Pakistan’s economic exploitation, denial of fundamental rights to its people and its administrative repression.
