Hartalika Teej 2024: Many fasts are kept in a year to attain unbroken good fortune and the desired groom like Vat Savitri, Hariyali Teej, Kajari Teej, Hartalika Teej and Karwa Chauth (Karwa Chauth 2024) etc. But among all these fasts, the fast of Hartalika Teej is considered to be the most difficult.

On Hartalika Teej, the fasting woman keeps a waterless fast for the whole day and breaks the fast the next day (Hartalika Teej Vrat paran). Also, married women should keep this fast every year. You cannot skip the fast in between. There is a religious belief that Maa Parvati also kept the fast of Hartalika Teej to get Shivji as her husband.

Hartalika Teej fast is observed every year on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month and it is observed on Chaturthi. This year Hartalika Teej fast will be observed on Friday 6 September 2024.

• When can you keep the fast: If there is no problem in your pregnancy and the doctor advises you to keep a fast, then you can keep the fast of Hartalika Teej.
• Consult a doctor- Before keeping the Hartalika Teej fast, pregnant women should first consult their doctor. The doctor will advise you to keep the fast or not, depending on your health and that of the baby in your womb.
• Do not fast in the first trimester: Pregnant women should avoid fasting in the first trimester i.e. the first three months of pregnancy. Because during this time the fetus develops the fastest and many physical changes take place.
• Do not observe Nirjala fast: Pregnant women should not observe Nirjala Vrat because it is very important to keep the body hydrated during this period.
• Consume fluids: You can consume liquids like coconut water, juice, milk etc. There is no harm in this.
• Do not consume these things: During pregnancy, you can drink fruit juice etc. But avoid eating solid food or drinking tea and coffee.
• Avoid these things: There is a tradition of keeping a night vigil on Hartalika Teej, sitting for hours and singing bhajans and kirtans. But pregnant women should avoid this.
• Do not swing: In many places, married women also swing on Hartalika Teej. But pregnant women should not do this.
• When not to keep the fast: If there are some complications or problems during pregnancy, you should observe a fast. Doing so can harm the baby growing in the womb.
• What to do if you have to skip the fast: If you have to give up fasting during pregnancy, then offer some dakshina in a betel leaf to a priest (Pandit ji). Also, do puja-paath in front of God and pray with folded hands.
