Then Hiranyakashyap entrusted the responsibility of killing devotee Prahrad to his sister Holika. Holika had the boon of not burning in fire. His aunt Holika was blessed with such a cloth that she could not be burnt if she sat in the fire wearing it. To kill Holika devotee Prahlad, she wore clothes and sat in the fire with him in her lap. As a result of devotee Prahlad’s devotion to Vishnu, Holika got burnt but nothing happened to devotee Prahlad. Due to this tradition, Holika Dahan is done every year and Holi of colors is played the next day.
