Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026 LIVE: Jagannath Rath Yatra is going to start from 16th July this year. Jagannath Dham of Puri is included in the four major Dhams of Sanatan Dharma. Here every year on the second date of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month, Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath takes place, along with brother Balabhadra and sister Devi Subhadra.
It is counted among the most ancient and huge Rath Yatras of the world, because on normal days not everyone has access to the sanctum sanctorum of Jagannath Temple, whereas during the Rath Yatra even a common man can have darshan of the Lord and can get the privilege of pulling the rope of his chariot.

Importance of Jagannath Rath Yatra
On Ashadh Shukla Dwitiya, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra depart from Sri Mandir for Gundicha Temple sitting on their respective chariots. In which lakhs of devotees from not only the country but also from abroad pull the rope of the chariot.
In the Utkal section (Purushottam Mahatmya) of Skanda Purana, the special importance of Purushottam Kshetra (Puri) and the darshan of Lord Jagannath has been mentioned. It is believed that those who see God during the Rath Yatra, walk with His chariot and remember Him with reverence, attain Vaikuntha Dham. One attains salvation after death.
