Sehore: A flood of devotees gathered at Amli Ghat on Somvati Amavasya, poor traffic system killed

Sehore Aonli Ghat Traffic Jam: Today, on the holy festival of Somvati Amavasya, a huge crowd of devotees gathered at Amli Ghat, the famous Narmada bank of Sehore district. Since morning, thousands of people are coming to take a dip of faith in Mother Narmada.

However, due to heavy crowd and poor traffic system, there has been a huge traffic jam on the Amli Ghat road for the last several hours, due to which the devotees are facing a lot of trouble.

Children and women trapped between scorching sun and humidity

The situation remains very serious on the main road connecting Amli Ghat. Devotees, women and children have been stuck in vehicles for hours amidst the scorching sun and humidity. The situation of the traffic jam is such that even two-wheelers are not able to find space to move out.

Expressing his pain, a devotee stuck in the traffic jam said:

“We are stuck in the traffic jam with the family since 6 in the morning. The children are suffering from the heat and are suffering. Every year there is a crowd on Amavasya, but this time no proper arrangement for route diversion or parking has been made by the administration. There are no arrangements for drinking water and protection from the sun here.”

The problem of traffic jam amidst the dip of virtue

According to religious beliefs, bathing in Narmada and charity on Somvati Amavasya has special significance. For this reason, a large number of people from many nearby districts including Sehore had left for Aanwali Ghat early in the morning. But the pressure of vehicles on the main road leading to the ghat suddenly increased, resulting in a convoy of vehicles several kilometers long.

Police forces are deployed to control the traffic, but all the arrangements are proving to be dwarf in front of the huge number of vehicles.

Table: A look at the current status of Aanli Ghat

Area current situation administrative arrangements
main road (highway) Heavy traffic jam, vehicles are crawling Policemen busy in hard work
Aanli Ghat (Narmada Coast) smooth arrangement, huge crowd Home guards, barricades, sailors on alert
problems of devotees sunlight, humidity, lack of drinking water Route diversion and parking failure

Why is today’s Somvati Amavasya special?

On Amavasya falling on Monday Somvati Amavasya It is said that it is considered very rare and fruitful.

  • Freedom from Pitradosh: On this day, one gets relief from Pitrudosh by bathing in holy rivers and offering offerings to the ancestors.
  • Fast of unbroken good fortune: On this day, women keep a fast for the long life of their husbands and circumambulate the Peepal tree 108 times.
  • Importance of Mahadan: According to the scriptures, the virtue of charity done on this day never ends.

Tight security at the ghat, examination on the roads

On one hand, the long traffic jam on the roads is testing the faith of the devotees, while on the other hand, tight security arrangements are being seen at the Narmada Ghat. Home guards and local police teams are ready at the ghat. To prevent devotees from going into deep water, strong barricading has been done and sailors have also been kept on alert. At present, the policemen are continuously trying to clear this long jam on the roads.
