There are 300 cases pending in the courts against honorable, so many ministers of Shivraj government are punished

Bhopal News: A Gujarat court had given a swift verdict in a defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. If the MP-MLA court of Madhya Pradesh also gives its verdict at the same speed, then the political equation of BJP-Congress will get disturbed. About 300 cases between 2 to 18 years old are going on in the MP-MLA courts of Madhya Pradesh. Out of these, more than 28 sitting MPs and MLAs of the state are facing punishment of two years or more. On getting punished, these MPs and MLAs will have to lose their membership and they will not be able to contest the next election either.

Which leaders are facing cases
Those against whom cases are pending include three ministers of the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government. There are more than 30 MPs and MLAs who have serious cases of fraud, attempt to murder and economic offences. In the ongoing cases against some sitting MPs and MLAs, the decision has not come even after 18 years.

In December 2017, the Supreme Court had ordered setting up of special courts to deliver verdicts in the cases of MPs and MLAs within two years. First a special court was formed in Bhopal. Two years later, 2-2 in Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur i.e. a total of 8 special courts have been formed to settle MP-MLA cases. Political parties after coming to power withdraw the cases filed against their office bearers and workers. But, the Supreme Court has prohibited the withdrawal of cases filed against the honorable without the consent of the court.

Why can’t it be settled on time?

The major reason for the delay in disposal of these cases is also the non-service of summons in time. The responsibility of this lies with the police. Experts say that most of the cases in special courts are from remote districts. Due to the distance from the court, witnesses often do not turn up on the dates. The most shocking name in the list of cases is that of former minister Surendra Patwa. There are about 165 cases of check bounce on him in Indore alone. In most of them he has not even appeared.

What does the High Court have to say
Jabalpur High Court Registrar General Ramkumar Choubey told the newspaper ‘Dainik Bhaskar’ that the High Court does not interfere in the judicial process of the subordinate courts, but the issue of pending cases which has come to its notice is very good. We will be able to say something only after collecting the data of all the courts in two-three days.
