Whatsapp Promoted Content: Taking a big step in the world of messaging, WhatsApp has now started status advertisements and promoted channels across the world. The company says that the purpose of this change is to make it easier for users to discover new brands, businesses and channels. At the same time, this will become a new means for companies to strengthen their presence on the platform.

Earlier sponsored content was limited to limited users only, but now it has been implemented globally. The company shared this information on its official social media platform X.

Status ads and promoted channels will be visible in the updates tab.

New advertisements and promoted channels will be visible in the Updates section of the app where statuses and channels are already available. These ads will appear between normal status posts with clear labeling so users understand that this is promotional content.

If users wish, they can easily skip these advertisements by swiping like other statuses. The company claims that this feature has been designed in such a way that people who are watching new updates get a chance to find brands and organizations right there.

Personal chat will not be affected

The company has made it clear that this change will be limited to the Updates tab only. Private chats, calls and personal status will remain protected with end-to-end encryption as before. This means that these advertisements will not have any impact on your personal conversations.

Users will get control

If a user is bothered by frequent advertisements, he can block or hide the related business. In this way, users will remain in control over what appears in the Updates tab.

The company may also offer the option of ad-free subscription in select regions, including some European countries. Under this plan, advertisements will be removed from the Updates section, although its price and availability may vary from location to location.

New feature also came in group chat

Along with advertisements, WhatsApp is also rapidly expanding its feature set. Recently the company has added a feature called Group Chat History so that new members can understand the gist of old conversations after joining the group.

Now the group administrator or member can share from 25 to maximum 100 old messages with the new member in a structured manner. Earlier this was not the case and new users were able to see only the messages sent after joining.

According to the company, when old chat history is shared, all members are notified and the time and sender information are clearly visible.
