It simply means that if you book a ticket in sleeper coach then in auto upgrade the same ticket will be upgraded to AC coach.

The most special thing about this service of Indian Railways is that the railway does not charge a single penny from the passengers for this. If you book ticket in third ac then your ticket can be upgraded to second ac also. However, the benefit of this facility is available only when the seats in the upper coach are vacant.
