Bangladesh News: The interim government of Bangladesh on Wednesday lifted the ban on the country’s largest Islamic fundamentalist party Jamaat-e-Islami, after which the party has now started showing its anti-India colours. The party chief Shafiqur Rahman is considered anti-India and pro-Pakistan. The Bangladesh government said that no evidence has been found of Islami Jamaat being involved in terrorist activities, due to which the ban on it has been lifted. As soon as the ban was lifted, the party chief has given advice to New Delhi.
Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman has said that ‘his party wants stable relations with India, but will not tolerate New Delhi’s interference in Bangladesh’s affairs.’ In fact, Shafiqur Rahman was meeting with representatives of the Indian Media Correspondents Association Bangladesh (IMCAB). During this, he said that India is their neighboring country. During Sheikh Hasina’s government, there was a rift in the relations between Jamaat-e-Islami and New Delhi, but in future he hopes that the relations between the two will be strengthened.
Jamaat-Shafiqur was not involved in the violence
Talking to Bangladeshi newspaper Daily Manab Jameen, Shafiqur said, ‘We are neighbours of each other and neighbours cannot be changed at will. This is something that cannot be denied.’ He said that ‘Jamaat does not criticise India or any other country intentionally. He said that Jamaat-e-Islami is dedicated to peace and democracy, his party has never been involved in subversive activities. If any member of this party is found involved in terrorist activities, then he is ready to apologise to the country.’
What did Shafiqur Rahman say about India?
In another statement, Shafiqur Rahman advised India that ‘India should not interfere in the internal affairs of Bangladesh. Jamaat supports close relations between New Delhi and Dhaka. But it also believes that Bangladesh should maintain close relations with countries like America, China and Pakistan.’ In an interview to PTI, Shafiqur said that New Delhi believes that Jamaat is anti-India, but it is not so. His party only talks about the interests of Bangladesh.
