Britain’s Transport Secretary Resign : Britain’s Transport Minister Louise Haig resigned from her post on Friday (29 November). The reason behind the resignation was the revelation that Lewis Haig had confessed to a crime before becoming a member of the UK Parliament. The resignation of the Transport Minister is the first resignation by a party member since the Labor Party government led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer came to power by winning the general elections in July.

When did the Transport Minister announce his resignation?

Louise Haig announced her resignation after it was revealed to the media that during a robbery in 2013 she had falsely told police that her mobile phone had been stolen. However, he later found the phone. But, this was not informed to the police. According to British media, he pleaded guilty to fraud in court in 2014. After which he was freed without any further action.

In her resignation letter published by Downing Street, Louise Haig wrote, ‘I did not want to be a distraction for the government.’ He wrote, ‘I am fully committed to my political project, but now I believe that it will be good for everyone that I support you while I am out of the government.’

Prime Minister thanked Lewis Haig

After Lewis Haig resigned, Prime Minister Keir Starmer thanked him for his work. The Prime Minister said Haig had made “huge progress” in returning the country’s railways to public ownership.

Haig inspected the new high-speed train

It is noteworthy that Lewis Haig had inspected the new project of high-speed HS2 train. Apart from this, she was responsible for the re-nationalization of the country’s railway services under the government’s plan, which was approved by the Parliament only last week.
