Closeness to Imran Khan’s ‘friend’ Faiz Hameed proved costly! Three former army officers arrested

Pakistan Army: After the court martial of former ISI chief Faiz Hameed, three retired army personnel have now been detained in Pakistan. This action was taken against these people in connection with the housing society case. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) gave this information through a press release on Thursday (August 15).

According to the statement, three retired officers were in military custody for actions contrary to military discipline. The Army’s media affairs branch said, “In connection with the FGCM proceedings of Lieutenant General (Retired) Faiz Hameed, three retired officers are also in military custody for actions contrary to military discipline. Further investigation is underway against some retired officers and their associates for spreading instability at the behest and in connivance of vested political interests.”

Former ISI chief taken into custody

In an unprecedented move on Monday, the army announced the arrest of General Hameed, the former chief of the premier Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, for violating the Army Act. According to a Dawn News source, General Hameed was detained from Rawalpindi when he was summoned for a meeting by a senior military official.

Action taken citing the order of the Supreme Court

The move, following corruption allegations levelled by the owner of a private housing society, shattered a long-held perception that the spy chief was untouchable in a country where generals have long wielded considerable influence.

The army cited a November 2023 directive of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take action against the former spy chief, in which Kanwar Moiz Khan, owner of Islamabad’s Top City Housing Society, was directed to seek redressal of grievances against General Hameed through relevant channels, including the Ministry of Defence.
