Bangladesh Violence: The fundamentalists in Bangladesh are targeting everyone who supports Sheikh Hasina and her family. Those who want Islamic rule are not even sparing Bangladesh’s founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Popular Bangladeshi actress Rokeya Prachi was attacked by a violent mob on August 15 when she was going to 32 Bangabandhu Road to pay tribute to the country’s founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his martyrdom day.
In a conversation with a private channel of India, Prachi said that the current situation of Bangladesh has become worse than 1971. Hindus are being killed in the country. Prachi said that during the attack, the angry mob tore the posters and threatened to kill her. Prachi said, ‘They were all supporters and workers of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami. They wanted to kill me. After beating me and throwing me out, they started dancing. Clothes were torn, women were physically harassed.’
People are going underground out of fear in Bangladesh
The famous Bangladeshi actress has become a victim of the rising wave of violence that has spread in Bangladesh in the last few weeks. This crisis is becoming increasingly dangerous for Awami League leaders and those who support former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Sheikh Hasina fled the country on 5 August amid violent student protests. Many Awami League leaders have gone underground fearing for their lives. This threat in Bangladesh is not limited to politicians only, but now actors are also being targeted.
Do fundamentalists want to change the national anthem of Bangladesh?
Prachi said, ‘I don’t know if I will be safe tomorrow. I don’t find anything meaningful in this new independence.’ Prachi said, ‘We have heard about 1971, this is even bigger than that. Many Hindus have been attacked. These people are trying to erase the memories of Bangabandhu and his self-sacrifice. They want to change the national anthem. This protest is a completely different protest, all this is being done by making the quota issue a pretense.’
Bangladesh’s roots are being destroyed – Prachi
Prachi said, ‘I don’t know who is running the country at this time, they are just committing murders and hanging the bodies.’ She said, ‘Are we under some Nobel laureate or Kota Sena? Even at gunpoint I will not settle for anything else in my country. What is happening today is an attempt to destroy the roots of Bangladesh.’
