Israel-Hamas war: Hamas leaders have suffered a major setback. Qatar has recently asked Hamas leaders to leave the country following America’s request. Many big leaders of Hamas live in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
The ceasefire between Hamas and Israel remains a top priority for US President Joe Biden. In this context, American officials had informed their Qatari counterparts about two weeks ago that they would have to stop giving shelter to Hamas in their capital. According to sources, Qatar has now agreed to this. He had asked Hamas to leave the country about a week ago.
Senior administrative officer gave information
According to CNN’s report, the senior administration official said, “Hamas is a terrorist group, which has killed American citizens and taken them hostage. Apart from this, it has also repeatedly rejected the proposal to release the hostages. Its leaders should no longer be welcomed in the capitals of any US partner.”
Take advantage of the threat of expulsion
During the war with Israel and negotiations over the return of hostages, US officials have called on Qatar to use the threat of expulsion in its negotiations with Hamas. Recently, America had said this after the death of American-Israeli hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin and Hamas’s rejection of another ceasefire proposal.
Hamas leaders can go to Türkiye
It is not clear when Hamas leaders will be deported from Qatar and where they will go. A US official told CNN that Hamas has not been given much time to leave the country. It is believed that he may go to Türkiye.
It is noteworthy that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had also earlier asked Qatar to warn Hamas that if it did not agree to stop the war in Gaza, they would be in danger of being thrown out of Doha.
