If the scientists’ expectations turn out to be true, it will mean that there is another planet where humans can live, where there is life. Gliese 12b is said to be smaller than Earth and larger than Venus. Scientists said that Gliese 12b is orbiting a small star 40 light years away.

According to media reports, scientists said that the surface of Gliese 12b is such that water can remain in liquid state here. Larissa Palethorpe, a doctoral student at Edinburgh University and University College London, said in a conversation with CNN, ‘The possibility of life has been found on only a few planets and this new planet is close to Earth. This discovery is really very big.’

How much time will it take to reach?

Larissa Palethorpe said that the distance of the planet Gliese 12b is not reachable. She said that if an attempt is made to reach this planet with the help of the fastest spacecraft currently available, it will take 2,25,000 years. It may be habitable for humans but there is no possibility of reaching it. In scientific language, it is being called an extrasolar planet or exoplanet. The mass of the planet Gliese 12b is said to be 3.87 times more than the mass of the Earth and it completes one revolution around its star in 12.8 days.
