Russia-Ukraine War: It has been more than 2 years since the Russia-Ukraine war. No one expected that a small country like Ukraine would last so long against nuclear power Russia in this war. But now times are changing. According to a CNN report, Russian soldiers killed three surrendering Ukrainian soldiers when they were coming out of the bunker with their weapons to surrender.
According to a Ukrainian official who requested anonymity to protect the identity of the unit, it is part of an apparent spate of killings that have escalated this year. Meanwhile, Ukrainian defense intelligence sources have provided CNN with a list of 15 cases since November, mostly drone video or audio intercepts, in which they say surrendered Ukrainian soldiers were killed by Russian forces rather than taken prisoner.
Office investigating 28 incidents- Prosecutor General
Ukraine’s prosecutor general told CNN his office is investigating 28 such incidents since the war began, in which a total of 62 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed. Video footage from the Pokrovsk region shows the increasingly brutal tactics of Russian forces as they advance rapidly into Ukraine’s east.
The Russian troops’ advance towards Pokrovsk continued.
It is being told that Moscow’s efforts towards the Ukrainian strategic military center Pokrovsk are continuing, despite Kiev’s recent gains in the Russian border region Kursk, which has increased the hope that the Kremlin will be forced to transfer troops to protect Russia’s own borders.
The killings were considered war crimes by Russia
Ukrainian prosecutors told CNN they believe the alleged killings are war crimes and are part of a well-planned Kremlin policy. “If prisoners of war surrender and they show that they do not have weapons in their hands, then it is a war crime for Russian soldiers to kill them,” said Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.
Kostin said such crimes had been committed in several regions of Ukraine, giving Kiev “an opportunity to claim that such a policy can be elevated to crimes against humanity. This policy is being pursued by the Kremlin.”
Ukrainian commanders are facing the risk of losing morale of their soldiers
The emergence of videos depicting Russia’s escalating tactics has created a dilemma for Ukrainian commanders as they face the difficult task of warning their troops and the world about Russian brutality, threatening to further weaken Ukrainian morale.
