In Mexico, a centuries-old pyramid collapsed in a few moments, people feared ‘mass destruction’

Mexico Ancient Pyramid Collapsed: Two pyramids used by an ancient tribe in Mexico for human sacrifice have collapsed. After its collapse, it is believed that nature can take a new turn and it is being described as a ‘supernatural sign of great destruction’.

Descendants of the indigenous tribe who built it fear a major natural disaster is imminent after one of the twin pyramids was destroyed by devastating storms, the New York Post reports.

The science behind the collapse of pyramids

The Mexican National Institute for Anthropology and History released a statement on Wednesday, August 7. “On the night of Tuesday, August 6, a portion of the central part of the southern mouth of one of the pyramid bases of the Ihuatzio archaeological zone collapsed,” the institution wrote.

“This was caused by heavy rainfall in the Purepecha Lake basin, which accumulated more water than the expected average rainfall. The high temperatures previously recorded in the region and the resulting drought caused cracks that flooded the interior of the pre-Hispanic building,” the statement added.

Human sacrifice pyramid with

According to media reports, the pyramid structure partially collapsed after heavy rains on July 30. The pyramid was built by the ancestors of the modern Purépecha people, a tribe that defeated the Aztecs. Aztec is the name of an ancient civilization.

The Purépecha tribe defeated the Aztecs and ruled for 400 years before the Spanish invasion in 1519. The Ihuatzio archaeological area was occupied by the Purépecha tribe from 900 AD until the arrival of the Aztecs and then the Spanish invaders.

Historians say that the ancient Purépecha tribe used the yácata pyramids to offer human sacrifices to their most important deity, Kurikweri. The yácata pyramids are found at the archaeological site of Ihuatzio in the state of Michoacán.
