However, that fear was dispelled by the commandos of the Special Protection Group (SPG). PM Narendra Modi was bowing to the statue of Bapu during his visit to Ukraine. During that time, there were great concerns about his security that something might go wrong.
Actually, Indian immigrants in Ukraine had shown anti-India sentiment. In such a situation, there was a fear that someone might attack the PM during that time. This was the reason why more than 60 SPG commandos were deployed, who created a bulletproof shield for the protection of the PM. When PM Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s statue, the SPG soldiers immediately formed a circle for his security.
Indians had protested, so security was increased
The Prime Minister’s team had come to know that anti-India sentiment is prevalent in Ukraine (due to India’s good friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin). During PM Modi’s meeting with Indian expatriates, it was told that Indians are facing a tough time in this country. Ukrainians accuse Indians of supporting President Putin and Russia. In such a situation, to prevent any untoward incident, more than 60 commandos were deployed at the statue site under the leadership of SPG Director Alok Sharma.
I took a sigh of relief when I went back by train
It was also seen in the video surfaced through the media how the PM was protected by opening the BR shields. When Prime Minister Modi returned to Poland after the visit to Ukraine ended, the security team breathed a sigh of relief. PM Narendra Modi returned to India on Saturday (August 24, 2024) morning.
