PM Modi’s diplomacy paid off, China agreed to implement all mutually agreed issues

India China Relation: China on Monday (November 18) said it is ready to implement the consensus reached on important issues between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in their meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Russia.

Asked about the possibility of a meeting between Modi and Xi on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Brazil, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said, “President Xi Jinping met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the recently held BRICS summit in Kazan. Had met.”

He said, “China is ready to work together with India to implement the consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries on key issues, enhance dialogue and cooperation, and promote strategic mutual trust.” Jian said that he has no information about the schedule of the meeting between the leaders and officials.

In a nearly 50-minute meeting held after last month’s BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan, Modi and Xi discussed the withdrawal of troops from the rest of the standoff areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh and resumption of patrolling there. Had supported the agreement between China. Both the leaders had also issued instructions to restore various bilateral dialogue mechanisms.

‘We should work together to find the right path’

In the meeting, Modi had stressed the importance of properly settling differences and disputes and not allowing peace and stability in the border areas to be disturbed. He had said that mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual sensitivity should remain the basis of relations.

At the same time, Xi had said that China-India relations basically depend on how the two big developing countries, each with a population of about 1.4 billion, behave with each other. He had said that China and India should maintain a good strategic perception towards each other and work together to find the “right and bright path” for both countries to live in harmony and develop together.

Relations between India and China turned sour after military clash

Relations between India and China had reached a low point after the fierce military clash in Galwan Valley in June 2020. This clash was the deadliest military clash between the two sides in the last few decades. India and China had agreed to an agreement on October 21 to withdraw troops from the remaining conflict areas in eastern Ladakh and start patrolling.

The agreement was seen as a major breakthrough towards resolving the military standoff that has been going on for almost four years in eastern Ladakh. Modi and Xi had also directed the Special Representatives to meet soon for talks on the India-China border issue and continue their efforts to resolve LAC-related issues.

India’s special representative for these talks is National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, while the Chinese side is led by Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The Special Representative Mechanism was established in 2003, since then 20 rounds of talks have taken place between the two sides. The last talks were held in 2019.
