Vladimir Putin in Mongolia: Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Mongolia on Monday night on a two-day visit. The International Criminal Court (ICC) had ordered Mongolia to arrest Putin, but Mongolia honoured Putin by giving him a guard of honour. A Russian expert has said on this issue that Mongolia needs Russia more than the ICC at present.
News agency TASS reported that Mongolia ignored ICC’s orders and welcomed Putin in a traditional manner in the capital Ulaanbaatar. During Putin’s arrival, the monument of Genghis Khan was painted with the flags of both the countries. Although some human rights activists were protesting outside the airport, the Mongolian government did not spare any effort to welcome Putin. Mongolia’s Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg herself reached the airport to welcome Putin.
