Why is Iran not fighting a war with Israel? These ‘3 challenges’ have tied the hands of Supreme Leader Khamenei

Iran-Israel News: The history of bad relations between Iran and Israel is several decades old. But in the last few months, the animosity between the two countries has reached its peak. Ever since Israel entered Tehran and killed Hamas chief Ismail Haniya, both countries have become thirsty for each other’s blood. However, Israel has not officially taken responsibility for Haniya’s death. But everyone believes that only Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad could have carried out this murder.

However, even though Iran seems eager to take revenge on Israel, the truth is just the opposite. In an interview to the Jerusalem Post, Mohsin Sazegara, the founder of Iran’s ‘Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC), has said that his country is not in a position to fight a long-term war with Israel. Iran has even asked its arch-enemy America to intervene to prevent a massive Israeli attack on it.

The Supreme Leader wanted to attack Israel, then why did he change the plan?

Mohsin Sazegara also talked about the internal conflicts going on in Iran and the challenges faced by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He explained why the plan to attack Israel was postponed. He said, “What Israel did was to go to the center of Tehran and kill Ismail Haniya. That too in the most secure building in Tehran. This murder was an insult to Iran’s intelligence organizations. This has created a problem for Khamenei, his main powerbase, i.e. the intelligence services.”

Sazegara explains, “Khamenei’s first reaction was to attack and continue it. But when he consulted his military commanders and IRGC experts and asked them what should be done, he was told that Iran is not in a position to fight Israel. They do not have any strategic balance. They can attack Israel with hypersonic missiles, which will reach there in six to eight minutes. But when Israel attacks, Iran will not be able to survive.”

The IRGC founder said that Khamenei was told that Iran’s air defense system is not strong. Iran is not in a position to fight Israel. Military officials told Khamenei that even if we attack, we may have to immediately consider a ceasefire through international mediation countries. It is believed that this is the reason why Khamenei cancelled the plan to attack Israel.

Mohsin Sazegara also talked about America’s role in the growing tension between Iran and Israel. He said, “As far as I know, Iran has held talks with America and President Joe Biden’s administration behind the scenes. Iranian officials asked America to talk to Israel and tell it that Iran will attack somewhere in Israel, but it promises that no one will be killed in this. In return, Israel should not take any action against Iran.”

Sazegara said, “Iran asked the US to put pressure on Israel not to take such a big retaliatory action that the matter could escalate, but this time the US did not agree and told them (Iran) that we cannot stop Israel.”

America has declared IRGC a terrorist organization

IRGC was established in Iran immediately after the Islamic Revolution of 1979, so that control could be maintained over the country. IRGC’s job was also to maintain a balance with Iran’s army, because many officers in the army were supporters of the Shah of Iran. In such a situation, the Islamic regime did not want to trust the army under any circumstances. IRGC has been declared a terrorist organization by the US. Mohsin is one of the founders of IRGC. He left Iran 20 years ago and went to America and settled there.

What challenges lie ahead for Iran’s Supreme Leader?

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei faces three major challenges. The first challenge is that if Iran attacks Israel and a major attack takes place on it in response, the Iranian army may face defeat. Because of this, Khamenei may lose power.

The second challenge is Iran’s economy, which is currently in a fragile state. The country is facing problems like energy production, inflation, unemployment and daily strikes. Keeping the economic conditions in mind, Khamenei cannot throw Iran into the fire of war even if he wants to.

The third challenge is that Khamenei is not getting the support of the people for the war. Intelligence reports are showing that the general public is not ready for war with Israel under any circumstances. If he goes to war, the public may revolt against him, which will prove to be a big problem.
