What is the RF.5 variant and where did it come from?
RF.5 is a sub-lineage of the Omicron variant of the corona virus, i.e. a branch of it. Many such sub-lineages of Omicron have been identified around the world, and RF.5 is also one of them. Vishnuvardhan, Director of Medical Education, said that this variant has evolved naturally and it started from the JN.1 variant, which passed through LF.7 to the PY.1.1.1 branch and then became RF.5. Officials have clarified that this is not a variant created by the joining of two variants. Rather this variant corona virus But it has been caught only under the routine genomic surveillance process.
Is this variant dangerous and what are its symptoms?
Based on the scientific evidence received so far, Vishnuvardhan has said that there is no indication that RF.5 is more dangerous than other Omicron variants. He has told people that they just need to be cautious. Symptoms of RF.5 are similar to other Omicron sub-variants, including sore throat, cough, fever, headache and body aches.
