Giving information, the ministry said, “Canadian authorities are capable of providing security to our diplomats and diplomatic assets, but they have recently expressed their inability to provide security to our diplomatic camps from violent acts of separatist and extremist elements. “As a result, our diplomats and consular officers are being denied the facilities afforded to Indian and Canadian citizens, especially senior citizens/retired people.”

India-Canada bilateral trade is $9.36 billion (2023 figures), of which India’s exports to Canada are $5.56 billion and imports from Canada are $3.8 billion. On the investment side, India’s stake in Canadian pension funds is estimated to be about 25% of their Asia-Pacific investment portfolio. Also, Canada is the 17th largest investor in India with FDI of $3.9 billion.
