What will you do after retirement? CJI Chandrachud told the complete plan, also gave this advice to the media

Justice DY Chandrachud Retirement Plan: Chief Justice of India Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud is retiring from the top post of the Supreme Court on Sunday, November 10. On his last working day on Friday, he delivered the verdict on ‘Bulldozer Justice’ and bid farewell to the Supreme Court. Chandrachud took over as Chief Justice in November 2022. After him, Justice Sanjeev Khanna will take charge of this post from Monday, November 11.

Discussing his post-retirement plans, he told Hindustan Times that according to him, when a person retires from the post of Chief Justice or Judge, the society still looks at him with the same respect and dignity. He said that every step of such a person should be while respecting the expectations of the society. Chandrachud said in his statement, “My personal belief is that even when you are relieved from the post of Chief Justice or a judge, the society still looks at you in the same way. Therefore, whatever I do, the dignity of my position will always be there.” “Will last.”

Can play an important role in tribunals

Referring to the role of retired judges, CJI Chandrachud told the newspaper that as per the laws made by the Parliament, retired judges are required to serve in tribunals like National Green Tribunal, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and Telecom Disputes Tribunal. . He said that the cases on which decisions are taken in these tribunals require great depth and expertise. That is why, former judges of the Supreme Court and High Court are appointed to these posts.

Importance of tribunals in national development

CJI Chandrachud said that if these tribunals do not have judges with high ethics and expertise, then it affects the economic progress of the country. He called it a ‘serious issue’ and said that effective functioning of these tribunals is very important to resolve these complex legal and economic matters. He has also requested the media not to take a negative view on retired judges accepting these posts. He said that the presence of former judges maintains confidence in the judicial process.

“Maintaining the dignity of the post is my priority”

The CJI stressed that the decisions of these roles (judges of tribunals) should be respected, and the retired judges who accept these posts should be viewed with respect. He said, “Society expects a certain level of behavior from you and I believe that whatever work I do will maintain the dignity of my position.”
