Kalam also left RJD on Sunday and took membership of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM). During this, more RJD leaders joined AIMIM along with him.

A target has been set for membership of the party to more than 4 lakh people in 10 assembly constituencies of the district. At the same time, he has described AIMIM as a party that takes forward the poor and helpless of all religions, not just the party of Muslims.
Targeted the BJP government at the Center on the train accident in Odisha. He demanded from the Central Government that a compensation of 10-10 lakhs be given to the relatives of the deceased and 5-5 lakhs to the injured.
