Crisis on security of minorities in Bangladesh, Johnny Moore expressed concern

Bangladesh Crisis: Former US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) member Johnny Moore has expressed deep concern about the increasing threats against religious minorities in Bangladesh. He has described it as a serious crisis not only for the affected communities but also for the existence of the country.

Johnny Moore criticized the Biden administration and said that it is not taking the situation in Bangladesh seriously. Speaking to ANI, he expressed surprise, “I wonder why the current administration is not paying much attention to Bangladesh. Ignoring important foreign policy priorities has led to more than 50 conflicts around the world which are similar to those of World War II. The highest since.”

Moore further said that the situation on matters of religious freedom in Bangladesh may change with the arrival of President-elect Donald Trump’s administration. He predicted that relations between the US and India would strengthen and that religious freedom would be prioritized. Concern over religious violence in Bangladesh

There has been an increase in incidents of violence against Hindus and other religious minorities in Bangladesh, about which Moore expressed deep concern. He strongly condemned the arrest of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das and called it dangerous. He further said “If they can arrest a priest they can target anyone”.

India expressed serious concern

India has also expressed deep concern over this violence. The Ministry of External Affairs has strongly condemned the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh and termed the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das as unfair. The ministry has appealed to Bangladesh to protect the safety of minorities and their right to assemble peacefully.

Appeal for action from the international community

Moore has criticized Western countries which are silent on religious persecution in Bangladesh. He said, “When Hindus are persecuted, very few voices are raised. This needs to change. This is the time to stand up for human rights and religious freedom.” He said Moore stressed that this is a historic moment and the entire world must take active steps to protect the rights of religious minorities in Bangladesh. “The world must not ignore this crisis”.
