Colombo Security Conclave: India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval arrived in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo on a two-day visit. During this, he participated in the Colombo Security Conference (CSC). Also, joint initiatives regarding the security of the Indian Ocean were discussed. During the Colombo visit, Ajit Doval also met the President and Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.

Ajit Doval’s arrival is considered very important before the presidential election to be held in Sri Lanka on September 21. Doval, who came to attend the ‘Colombo Security Conclave’, also met President Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunwardene, main opposition leader Sajith Premadasa and Marxist JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

China is the biggest issue in Colombo Security Conclave
China is increasing its hold on land as well as sea, so keeping an eye on China is an important part of this meeting. India has a 7500 km long coastline apart from islands with strategic chokepoints. In such a situation, the Colombo Security Conclave plays a very important role for India. China is continuously increasing its activity in the Indian Ocean, so India gets a lot of convenience with the cooperation of neighboring countries.

Doval discussed economic security in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka’s President’s Media Division (PMD) said Doval met Wickremesinghe at the Presidential Secretariat this morning. They discussed the ongoing economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and India. The PMD said that Sagala Ratnayake, Senior Advisor to the President on National Security, also attended the meeting. During his meeting with Prime Minister Gunawardene on Thursday night at the Prime Minister’s Office, Doval said that there is immense potential for India and Sri Lanka to further strengthen economic cooperation.

“Doval expressed India’s desire to further expand cooperation with Sri Lanka and sought the Prime Minister’s views on priority areas,” news portal Adaderana reported.

India is promoting energy projects in Sri Lanka
Distribution and Indian investments in solar and wind power projects can be increased, the Sri Lankan PMO said in a statement after the meeting. Doval said that after some time, Sri Lanka can generate more power than its domestic requirement and sell the excess power to India and get huge financial benefits. He informed that Bhutan is selling a large amount of hydroelectric power to India and this gives the biggest revenue to that country.

Talking about the Colombo Security Conclave, it started in the year 2011. Initially, three countries India, Sri Lanka and Maldives were included in this organization. Later, another country Mauritius also joined it. Bangladesh has also been kept as an observer in this organization. CAC is such a high level meeting in which the security of these countries is discussed and future strategy is decided.

It started with a very important issue, currently there are five points which are discussed in this conference. These five issues include terrorism, smuggling, cyber security, security of infrastructure and technology. The biggest issue in this is China. The most important discussion through this conference is about keeping an eye on China, because China is dangerous for all countries.
