What is Dragon Drone?

1. The Dragon drone actually drops thermite, a white-hot mixture of aluminum powder and iron oxide.
2. Thermite burns at temperatures up to 4000 °F (2200 °C), therefore it can quickly ignite trees and environmental cover.
3. When it is dropped, the mixture of aluminium powder and iron oxide looks like the fire spewed by a dragon. Hence, it is named Dragon Drone.
4. Thermite cannot be extinguished quickly, that is why it can burn almost anything, even metal.
5. This mixture was used by Germany and the Allies in World War II. It was used by the US military from the 1960s to 2014 and production was resumed in 2023.
6. It was discovered in the 1890s and was originally used to weld railway tracks. According to Action on Armed Violence (AOAV), the material is dropped through the direct hatch, where the intense heat quickly ignites and destroys everything inside.
7. A UK-based anti-war advocacy group called AOAV says this accuracy, combined with the drone’s ability to bypass conventional defenses, makes thermite a highly effective tool in warfare.

10. Human Rights Watch (HRW) says these weapons can cause “fourth- or fifth-degree burns” and damage muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, blood vessels and even bones.
