Israel-Iran conflict: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi warned on Saturday (November 9) that the ongoing war in Gaza and Lebanon between Israel and Tehran-backed groups could spread outside the Middle East. In his speech on state TV, Aragchi clearly said that this conflict will not be limited to West Asia only, but its serious consequences can be seen in other regions as well.
Since the sudden attack by Hamas on Israel in October 2023, Israel has been waging a destructive war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. This step by Israel is an attempt to stop the increasing attacks by the Iran-backed Palestinian extremist group. Israel has also recently increased its crackdown on the Hezbollah group in Lebanon, which is economically and militarily backed by Iran.
Israel carried out air strikes on Iran
During this entire conflict, on October 26, Israel carried out air strikes on Iran, in which four Iranian soldiers were killed and Iran’s radar system was damaged. The attack was in retaliation for the killing of a Revolutionary Guard general and other Iran-backed terrorist leaders. The attacks have further escalated tensions in Iran, and Tehran has vowed to retaliate despite warnings from the US and Israel.
Iran’s reaction and warning
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that if there is a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, it could affect Iran’s reaction. He indicated that if Israel accepts a ceasefire and stops the massacre of innocent people, then the intensity of the reaction from Iran may be reduced.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s advisor’s advice
Ali Larijani, an advisor to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, also advised to avoid a thoughtless reaction against Israel. He said that Israel’s aim is to draw Iran into the conflict and Iran should avoid falling into its trap. He stressed the need to react with wisdom and restraint.
