‘PM Modi is worried about Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India because…’, said Pakistani expert

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached India on Monday (August 5, 2024). The student movement that started last month took such a violent form that Sheikh Hasina had to hastily resign from the post of PM and flee the country. Some well-known Pakistanis are very happy with this coup in Bangladesh. Abdul Basit, who was the High Commissioner of Pakistan to India, has released a video congratulating the Bangladeshis.

Abdul Basit said that many congratulations to the people of Bangladesh and Sheikh Hasina has fled from Bangladesh and reached India. He held Sheikh Hasina responsible for the distance between Pakistan and Bangladesh and said that she kept the old things in her heart and whenever Pakistan extended a hand, she ignored it, while she gave importance to India.

Abdul Basit also targeted India and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in trouble due to Sheikh Hasina’s visit there. Narendra Modi And India will be very upset. He said that it would have been better if Sheikh Hasina had resigned a month ago, then the 300 deaths would not have happened, but politicians understand a little late.

What will be India’s stand if a new government is formed in Bangladesh?
Abdul Basit further said, ‘Whenever a new government comes to power in Bangladesh and democracy strengthens, Pakistan will welcome it. It remains to be seen how India reacts to this situation. Bangladeshis should have a demand from India and Calcutta to hand over Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh because there are talks of forming an inquiry commission against her. Who will be responsible for these 300 deaths?’ He said, ‘This would also be a legitimate demand of Bangladesh, but I don’t think that Mr. Modi will oblige the new government of Bangladesh at the moment.’

Referring to Sheikh Hasina’s decision to give quota to freedom fighters, Abdul Basit said, “She made 30 percent quota for the fighters of Bangladesh’s 1971 freedom struggle, which is completely wrong. If she had agreed against it, perhaps the situation today would not have been as it is.” He said that the youth of Bangladesh did not accept the quota. The youth do not even know what happened in 1971, they want the country to develop and Bangladesh should not be made a satellite state of India.

Sheikh Hasina remains an obstacle between Pakistan and Bangladesh?
Regarding Bangladesh’s relations with Pakistan, Abdul Basit said that Sheikh Hasina always gave importance to India, so when Pakistan also extended a hand of friendship towards her, she did not give any special response. He said that she was following the same mindset of 1971. However, Article 16 of the agreement between India, Pakistan and Bangladesh on 10 April 1974 states that we should forget the old bitterness and move forward.

Sheikh Hasina’s hatred against Pakistan created major obstacles in the relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh. He said that Sheikh Hasina’s political career is over, but at the age she is in, it is difficult for her to come back again. Abdul Basit said about the new government of Bangladesh that we will have to see what the army chief does now. Will there be immediate elections or will we act according to the provisions of the constitution. Or will a transitional government be formed. He said that earlier also there has been a technocrat setup in Bangladesh. So maybe the same system should be brought back because Bangladesh’s economy is also facing a lot of problems. Last year they also did a program of International Monetary Fund (IMF), tried to get help from China and India as well, but Sheikh Hasina believed that she made Bangladesh a satellite state.
